Acquisitions and donations

The MAS collection grows every year. We look for new acquisitions ourselves, but also receive offers in the form of a donation or an inheritance. We also invite people to contribute actively to the MAS collection through appeals.

Guy Rombouts and Benjamin Verdonck rearrange Jaap Kruithof
The Belgian philosopher Jaap Kruithof collected things that other people usually discard. Half of his collection is being given a new life thanks to the visual work of artists Guy Rombouts and Benjamin Verdonck.

Photo exhibition Horse

A photography project by Heleen Peeters. She immersed herself in the horse (meat) culture around the world. The photographs raised questions: What determines the status of the horse? How is it that traditions change? And what if the same thing happened to other animals?

Recipes from the 16e century

Viki Geunes, chef of the famous restaurant Zilte, selected four recipes from around 1600 from the Cockbouck and came up with a contemporary version. You'll find them in the exhibition, but also here online.

The Antwerp corona archive

The MAS and the FelixArchief invited all Antwerp citizens to contribute to an archive about daily life during the coronapandemic in Antwerp. Many Antwerp citizens responded with an often very personal contribution.

Altar of Antwerp

Since 2012, the Mestizo Arts Platform (MAP) collective has been maintaining and renewing the Altar of Antwerp: a participatory installation that invites us to reflect on the meaning of 'what we have lost' in the city. This has been a part of the MAS' permanent collection since 2017.

Nello and Patrasche

Jan Corteel devoted himself to promoting the story of Nello and Patrasche in Antwerp and Belgium. Over the years, Jan even built up a Nello and Patrasche collection, with all kinds of merchandise and various editions of the book. He donated this collection to the MAS.

Photo series 'Ahopsan Forest'

Photographer Mark De Fraeye and his wife donated some of their photo series to the MAS. De Fraeye's series 'Ahopsan Forest' is a visual manifesto for the preservation of the forest in South Korea.
