CLOSED | Once the largest port in the world, today the Port of Antwerp is characterised by colourful containers. It connects the city with the rest of the world. The exhibition 'Wordl Port' dived into the history of our port.

Collection

Antwerp, a metropolis on the river. That's how you know the city today. In the MAS you'll discover that this has been true for a long time. A collection of 500,000 pieces offers you a refreshing look at the city and its contact with other cultures.

Boulevard and panorama

The Boulevard spirals upwards through nine floors like a glass spiral. It treats you to a magnificent view of the city, getting higher and higher, changing constantly. The rooftop panorama offers a 360-degree view of the city, the harbor, and the world.

Magic lantern slides in the light of today

The MAS started digitizing its collection of thousands of slides. These slides that used to be projected with a magic lantern, are finally seeing the light of day again.

Freight

About the port, people and cargo

In 'Freight' you stop at various 'docks', each of which reveals a different part of the city's connection with world trade. A journey through the history of the port city. On view on the 6th floor.

Pictures by Raoul Van Den Boom

Thousands of unique images from photographer Raoul Van Den Boom show the artistic and social life in Antwerp between 1950 and 1980. Some photographs from the immense collection are now on display, some others can be viewed digitally.

Area

The Eilandje was the place where people gathered on their way to the New World. The magnificent Red Star Line steamers moored on the quay just before the bend in the Scheldt River. When the steam whistle announced an impending departure, the quay swarmed with activity. The Eilandje is currently a sought after place in the city.

A modern-day warehouse

In this impressive warehouse, all the museum rooms are stacked like boxes. Follow the Boulevard with its metres-high glass windows as it spirals upwards, and enjoy an incredible view of the city from every level.
