The quirky characters in the family exhibition “Anybody Home?” take you on an imaginative journey and invite you to reflect: how can “home” mean something different to everyone?

Mesoamerican object to Brussels

For the exhibition 'Postcolonial?' at the House of European History in Brussels, the MAS is lending an artefact from Mayan culture. It is an object from the collection of Paul & Dora Janssen-Arts.

Altar of Antwerp

Since 2012, the Mestizo Arts Platform (MAP) collective has been maintaining and renewing the Altar of Antwerp: a participatory installation that invites us to reflect on the meaning of 'what we have lost' in the city. This has been a part of the MAS' permanent collection since 2017.

The Salon

CLOSED| In super-diverse Antwerp, you will find hairstyles and hair traditions of all colours and shapes. The hair salons where it all happens are equally diverse. The photo exhibition 'The Salon' gave you a taste of the diversity of hair salons and cuts.  

Living Collection, Living Traditions

FREE ENTRANCE | In a diverse city like Antwerp, you can find all kinds of traditions that people still actively practice today. In the Visible Storage, eight people invite you to discover the tradition they continue to live and experience. Each of them selected an object that is indispensable to their tradition and shares what that tradition means to them.

In memoriam

Chris De Lauwer
On May 6, 2018 Chris De Lauwer, curator and keeper of the Asia collection in the MAS, passed away. Chris was 62.

Food & beverages

The MAS is not only a museum, it's also a unique location for a picnic, it offers a cosy museum café at the foot of the MAS as well as a gourmet restaurant on the top floor.
