In 2018 the youngsters of MAS in young hands took over a floor of the museum. A unique exhibition that revealed the animal side of the museum collection with creative materials and a wild programme.
CLOSED - Migration is about living and working in an unfamiliar place. It’s about long-distance love and growing up in a foreign city, a new home. You discovered the story of 50 years of migration from Morocco and Turkey on the fifth floor of the MAS.
Interview with a Notorious Wild Cat (2021) is a video installation about a hybrid being — part human, part lynx. It explores the experience of living in a changing body: feminine, seductive, strange. A source of both pride and shame — something that cannot be fully understood or defined.
CLOSED - Great art needs no explanation to touch people. Some works of art leave observers bewildered; others allow them to 'see' from a different perspective. The exhibition 'Encounters' was about a universal experience of art. Dancers in the exhibition were guides of sensibility for the observer; they reinforced the total experience.
The MAS focuses on a piece of city history from the Second World War. In the pavilion, you can see where V-bombs fell on Antwerp and the scars they have left behind, by means of photographs, first-person testimonies and maps. You can even see a real V1-bomb from the MAS collection.
CLOSED - Magritte, Bacon, Ensor, Moore, Jordaens, Rubens … These were just some of the world-famous names on display at the MAS. 'Rare and indispensable' brought a unique selection of masterpieces from the Flemish masterpiece list.
Nonbinary is an audiovisual interactive exhibition that shows gender as a fluid spectrum, intertwined with culture and history. Through research, interviews and interactive maps, the expo reveals various often invisible nonbinary experiences worldwide, and challenges new understanding.
