Water-rAnt is assembling one hundred and fifteen authentic ships from Antwerp, the harbour and the Scheldt river's delta. You'll become acquainted with more than thirty maritime heritage and nautical organisations. Come aboard for cruises to the Dry Docks site, where an extensive programme awaits you. CLOSED - Migration is about living and working in an unfamiliar place. It’s about long-distance love and growing up in a foreign city, a new home. You discovered the story of 50 years of migration from Morocco and Turkey on the fifth floor of the MAS.
CLOSED - Great art needs no explanation to touch people. Some works of art leave observers bewildered; others allow them to 'see' from a different perspective. The exhibition 'Encounters' was about a universal experience of art. Dancers in the exhibition were guides of sensibility for the observer; they reinforced the total experience.
- CLOSED - In 1897 the Belgica set off from Antwerp to the last blind spot on the world map: Antarctica. The expedition got stuck in the polar ice and made history as a result. The expo showed how the men managed to survive, who followed in their footsteps, and what Antarctica is like today.
CLOSED - People have desires. They desire love and security. They desire to understand the meaning of life. They also desire wealth, status and power... In the exhibition Dazzling Desire, visitors discovered how mankind has made these desires tangible with striking objects, often consisting of diamonds.
CLOSED - With “Body Art” the MAS has developed a varied exhibition about forms of body adornment, from make-up and tattoos to scarification and surgical changes, throughout the centuries and in different cultures. The main question in this exhibition was “Why do people alter their body?”
CLOSED - Magritte, Bacon, Ensor, Moore, Jordaens, Rubens … These were just some of the world-famous names on display at the MAS. 'Rare and indispensable' brought a unique selection of masterpieces from the Flemish masterpiece list.
