A facade full of hands

Anyone who has taken a close look at the reddish-brown facades of the MAS may have noticed shiny aluminum hands hanging there. Of course, they are not there just for decoration. They are a reminder of the many patrons who lent a hand during the construction of the MAS.

We chose the hand as a symbol not randomly of course: our museum tells the story of Antwerp in the world and the world in Antwerp. It tells how people from all over the world left their prints in our city and how Antwerp residents did the same in other places. In addition, the hand is also the symbol of Antwerp with the legend of Brabo and Antigoon.

Apart from the symbolic value of the hands, they are also a memento of patrons who helped the MAS during construction. Interested parties could help the museum with a donation of at least 1,000 euros and for this they received a hand on the wall.

There is room for about 3,000 hands on the facade. Of these, a thousand have now been donated. In the MAS and in the document below you will find an overview of all sponsors and which hand belongs to whom.
