Exodus exhibition

1914. More than 1.5 million Belgians flee the violence of WWI. 2014. More than 45 million people worldwide have left their homes due to violence and oppression. On this tour, your pupils will learn the compelling story of millions of people on the run. The link to current affairs is easily established.

What were refugees’ lives like during the Great War? Where did all those people go to escape misery? How did people cope with war and violence in 1914, and what do we think about it now? How has the meaning of the words ‘our own people’ evolved? Are there significant differences between refugee camps today and back then? How can these stories of a hundred years ago be connected with today?

The story of the refugees is linked to the situation today during the tour. Pupils are invited to empathise and to share their own interpretations and opinions.
