The world mirrored

24.04.2015 - 16.08.2015

'The world mirrored. World maps from the Middle Ages to the present day' took you on a discovery through the fascinating history of the Western world view from the Middle Ages to the present day. We received 48,718 visitors.

More than 150 unique world maps, globes and objects showed how the world view evolved, but also how it was represented differently each century. Some contemporary artists - Honoré d'O, Mona Hatoum, Stephen Walter - added their reflection to this story.

This exhibition presented the history of cartography in three different narratives: 'Chronology of world views', 'Knowledge and imagination' and 'Journeys of discovery'.

The expo linked up with the International Conference on the History of Cartography (ICHC), which took place in Antwerp in the summer of 2015. For this 26th edition, a varied exhibition programme around cartography was put together. When purchasing a ticket in the MAS, you received a discount voucher for the ICHC exhibition programme.
