A bold look at the collection

In 2018 the youngsters of MAS in young hands took over a floor of the museum. A unique exhibition that revealed the animal side of the museum collection with creative materials and a wild programme.

Cool Japan

The exhibition 'Cool Japan' takes you on a whirlwind tour of the global fascination for Japanese visual culture. With unique historical pieces, the MAS shows how Japanese icons such as Hello Kitty, Zelda and Sailor Moon are all part of a long tradition and how both new and old Japanese art continues to inspire the world.

100 x Congo

The exhibition ‘100 x Congo’ features one hundred unique highlights from our Congolese collection. What stories are hidden behind the objects? How did they end up here? What did they mean to Congolese peoples? And what about the African presence in Antwerp?

Water-rAnt 2019

Water-rAnt is assembling one hundred and fifteen authentic ships from Antwerp, the harbour and the Scheldt river's delta. You'll become acquainted with more than thirty maritime heritage and nautical organisations. Come aboard for cruises to the Dry Docks site, where an extensive programme awaits you. There's also all sorts of things to experience around the MAS!

V-bombs in Antwerp, 1944-1945

The MAS focuses on a piece of city history from the Second World War. In the pavilion, you can see where V-bombs fell on Antwerp and the scars they have left behind, by means of photographs, first-person testimonies and maps. You can even see a real V1-bomb from the MAS collection.

Breaking Boundaries

Antwerp Olympic city

A hundred years ago, Antwerp organised the Olympic Games. In spite of the difficult post-war situation and limited financial resources, the Games were groundbreaking. This mini exhibition includes posters, photos, trophies and medals from the sports event and its participants.

Rare and Indispensable

Masterpieces from Flemish collections

Magritte, Bacon, Ensor, Moore, Jordaens, Rubens … These were just some of the world-famous names on display at the MAS. 'Rare and indispensable' brought a unique selection of masterpieces from the Flemish masterpiece list.

A journey into life below the waterline

On the banks of the river Scheldt, strange and battered figures do regularly wash up. They dream of a second chance and are building a Travelling Reserve for Scheldt jetsam. On display from 3/05 until 22/08/2021.
