About the artist

The Antwerp Queer Choir was founded in spring 2023 as a graduation project at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. Theatre makers Danny de Jong and Isaak Duerinck wanted to create a space where members of the Antwerp queer community could safely engage in artistic expression, particularly through choral singing.

They are supported by Katrien Eerdekens, a speech therapist and vocal coach who specialises in healthy voice use for people during and after gender transition. The choir does not assign vocal parts based on gender, but instead seeks alternative approaches. Within its artistic framework, the focus remains on the importance of gathering and dialogue for people in the queer community. In this way, Antwerp Queer Choir aims to offer a safe space where queer individuals can express themselves, support one another, and find inspiration
