Waiting for transgender care in the Netherlands, as in Belgium, takes forever. On average, it takes as much as two years before you get an intake interview with a psychologist who determines your eligibility for care. Then treatment has not even begun. At the gender team at the University Medical Centre Groningen, the waiting time even reached 30 months in March 2023. That’s 130 weeks. 912 days. 21,900 hours. 1,314,900 minutes.
OUR EXQUISITE CORPSE translates that absurd waiting time into something tangible. It is a participatory art project that grows as the clock ticks. Inspired by the cadavre exquis - a collective poem or drawing where no one knows the full picture - we invite everyone to participate.
Piece by piece, contributions form a colourful, metre-long quilt of time. Each participant keeps track of how long they work on their patch: a few seconds, half an hour, a whole afternoon - everything counts. All those minutes are added up, until together we arrive at that one, unimaginable waiting time: 1,314,900 minutes. 21,900 hours. 912 days. 130 weeks. 30 months.
Join in. Embroider, draw, write, sew, and show how long waiting feels.

About the artist
The pink Cube. is a platform for queer art and culture, which has historically been marginalized, violated, or destroyed. Facing adversity, queer communities embraced yet resilient manifestations of their culture: fashion, dance, language, humor and art. This platform aims to highlight these immaterial but influential contributions, to foster a space for queer art and individuals to thrive and to nurture community bonds.
