In 'Among Us', the MAS invites you to step into the stories of the LGBTQI+ community - stories that have long been part of society, but have not always been visible. Stories of people who love, search, celebrate, care, and sometimes have to fight to claim space for who they are.
Through personal testimonies, heritage pieces, photographs, and artworks, the exhibition invites you to reflect on queer lives. Not as something belonging to "others," but as something that touches us all. After all, everyone knows what it feels like to reveal or hide yourself, to belong, or to feel excluded.
Guided by themes such as intimacy & encounter, (chosen) family, body & vulnerability, and community & struggle, you will connect with LGBTQI+ lives from the 1960s to the present day.
This exhibition was created in close collaboration with individuals, organizations, and communities. Their stories and perspectives form the heart of the exhibition. The stories come from Antwerp and Flanders, but are situated within the broader history of emancipation, joy, civil rights, and persecution.
'Among Us' is an invitation to look and to be seen. To pause, to recognize, and perhaps to understand something new - about others, and about yourself.
