CLOSED | The MAS preserves culturally and historically sensitive Congolese heritage that numbers nearly 5,000 cultural objects. MAS staff, together with Congolese colleagues, investigated the circumstances under which this collection disappeared from Congo. The first results of the study were on display in the Visible Storage.

Universal Tongue

CLOSED | Anouk Kruithof showed that dance is a universal language in different (sub)cultures. You walked through a rousing video installation featuring some 1,000 dance styles from around the world. A four-hour film.

Breaking Boundaries

Antwerp Olympic city

A hundred years ago, Antwerp organised the Olympic Games. In spite of the difficult post-war situation and limited financial resources, the Games were groundbreaking. This mini exhibition includes posters, photos, trophies and medals from the sports event and its participants.

The corner shop

19.04.2016 - 2.04.2017

CLOSED - "The corner shop" highlighted the colourful history of Antwerp's shops and shopkeepers in the MAS boulevard. MAS asked photographer Sanne De Wilde to find out more about the people who run local shops in the city today. The result was a colourful and diverse portrait series. Combined with old photos, the exhibition showed the human face behind the corner shops of the city since the Fifties.

With unique historical pieces, the MAS shows how Japanese icons such as Hello Kitty, Zelda and Sailor Moon are all part of a long tradition and how both new and old Japanese art continues to inspire the world.

MAS X Antwerp Queer Arts Festival

In a workshop, visual artist Laura Boser uses improvisation and listening exercises to challenge you to look at the hierarchy of your body parts differently. 

Tranzyt Antwerpia

The photographer Herman Selleslags and the author Pascal Verbeken took an unforgettable journey through Europe. They packed the diary of the Jewish teenager Benjamin Kopp, who was born in a village near Warsaw and was a Red Star Line passenger in 1912, in their suitcase.
