Celebrate five years of the MAS

Three-day festival for 5 euros

The MAS is turning five, and we plan to live it up over Whitsun weekend with a surprising and multi-faceted programme. From 14 to 16 May 2016, the MAS celebrates its fifth anniversary with two new exhibitions, DJs in the square, edible art, workshops for young and old, good food and drink at our food truck festival, and an eccentric firework display to round the whole thing off!

Exhibition: Luc Tuymans. Glasses

The MAS celebrates its fifth anniversary with the world-famous artist from Antwerp. Luc Tuymans exhibits a thematic selection from his oeuvre for the first time.

Exhibition: Antwerp à la carte | Cities and food

This exhibition serves up a tasty history of the city as it follows the surprising, erratic and often invisible course of the food chain. Find out how cities have fed their growing number of inhabitants over the centuries.

Not to be missed

  • MasterGlasses – Luc Tuymans in person explains all about his exhibition Luc Tuymans. Glasses on 14/5 and 15/5 at 5 pm.
  • Bus tour of the port B- Meet Danny the Docker and discover the stories behind the sugar, coffee and bananas in the port of Antwerp. Discover the port through the prism of the Antwerp à la carte exhibition.
  • Eating the City - Contemporary Chinese artist Song Dong spends five days building his city of biscuits. When the city is finished, it’s party time: at 3 pm on Monday 16/5, we all eat the city together.
  • Fireworks – The MAS blows out its five candles to musical accompaniment from DJ Ax. Fireworks on Saturday 14 May, starting at 10.30 pm. The best view will be from the square in front of the MAS.
  • BUS-KRUID food truck festival - Celebration is synonymous with food and drink. The food trucks at Bus-kruid indulge your taste buds for an entire weekend.
  • Dancing - Dance through to the firework display to the hip hop vibes of Nonkel Guy and the beats of DJ Ax, alias Axel Daeseleire. After the fireworks, we’ll then dance the night away at Café Storm. With DJs Böky Bros, Tom Barman and Deedz.
  • There are other specials on the programme too: workshops for young and old, a look behind the scenes, performances and music.
