Call for books

Help us fill a bookshelf in the expo "We are here"

Call for contributions

The exhibition “We Are Here” opening at MAS in February 2027, focuses on the lives of LGBTQI+ people. In the room “Chosen Family” we will feature a bookshelf filled with books that have played an important role in their lives.

We are looking not only for books with queer stories, but also for books that held personal significance at a particular moment in someone’s life, offered comfort or hope, or provided information that could not be found elsewhere.

Would you like to help us fill this bookshelf?

  1. What are we looking for?
Books of all kinds and genres, accompanied by your personal story.
  2. How can you participate? First, complete the form available at https://tinyurl.com/queerboekenkast
  3. When? You can submit your book story until October 31, 2026.

Afterward, you may find your meaningful book featured in the exhibition “We Are Here” The MAS team and Erfgoedlab will try to locate a secondhand copy of your book so that visitors can handle and browse it during the exhibition. Your personal story will be displayed on the book cover, together with your (chosen) first name, age, and year of birth.

We will keep you informed by email throughout the process.

About the exhibition

We are here

Queer stories about claiming space and coming home

26.02 to 30.08.2027
The exhibition explores what it means to live together and meet one another. What it means to be allowed to truly be yourself, in your own body, in your relationships with others, in public, and behind closed doors. An exhibition that shows how these themes, even today, are not publicly accepted or accessible for everyone.
